Completed projects include slash and burn, mechanical mastication, and hand fuel reduction work, depending on terrain. We have also successfully implemented innovative and sustainable land clearing methods locally in Calaveras County, including goat and sheep grazing as part of a multi faceted approach to land and forest management.

California Forestry Alliance also practices building compost and high-grade soil from woody biomass acquired from land clearing and fuels reduction, and arborist work.

We selectively thinned conifers and dead and down woody debris on 140 acres within Yosemite National Park around the communities of Hodgdon Meadows and Foresta. This project resulted in reduced fire risk to the infrastructure within these communities and the ability for YNP to safely plan prescribed burns in the future.

We selectively thinned small conifers encroaching upon giant sequoias and broadcast chipped the material in place on 65 acres within Yosemite National Park. The Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias has no fire history in several decades and the density of small pines and fuel loading has threatened this grove repeatedly, especially during the Rim Fire (2013) and Ferguson Fire (2018). This work will protect monarch giant sequoias and allow YNP staff to safely plan future prescribed burns.

We hand cut and piled small conifers and brush on 155 acres within Calaveras Big Trees State Park. This work prepared the site for prescribed burning and reduced the wildfire risk to the giant sequoias and facilities present within this park.

We hand felled and transported 1,200 hazard trees from the Sugar Pine Reservoir Recreation Complex to identified disposal areas on the Tahoe National Forest. We provided additional site treatments including: end-lining, skidding, transporting of included timber and slash to identified disposal sites, applying a borate compound to stumps, stump grinding designated stumps and restoring recreation sites. This project improved public safety and reduction of wildfire risk to national forest facilities.
